Annual Banquet

2019 ISSA Annual Banquet

Our 24th Hall of Fame Induction Banquet was held on Sunday, April 7that the Valle Vista Country Club in Greenwood.

With the induction of the six-member Class of 2019, the ISSA’s Hall of Fame now includes 118 members

This year’s class consists of Gordon Engelhardt, Evansville Courier-Press; Chuck Freeby, WHME-South Bend; Mike Haynes, former voice of the NHL’s Colorado Avalance; Robin Miller, formerly of the Indianapolis Star, now covering IndyCar racing for NBCSN; Rita Price, WRSW-Warsaw; and Art Saltsberg, WOWO-Fort Wayne.

In addition, this year’s recipients of the ISSA’s annual awards were Rick Semmler, WTHI-Terre Haute (Marv Bates Sportscaster of the Year); Mike Carmin, Lafayette Journal & Courier (Corky Lamm Sportswriter of the Year); Steve Fields, Greencastle Banner Graphic (Ron Lemasters Lifetime Achievement Award) and Mike Skvara, ESPN 97.7 The Ref (Bob Williams Helping Hand Award).

Please click on the “Hall of Fame” page for biographical information on each of this year’s award winners and to see a roster of our Hall of Fame members.

The ISSA continues to grow and improve. Our membership has doubled in the past five years, now closing in on 100 members.

Those interested in joining our association should mail their $20 annual dues to Fred Inniger, ISSA treasurer, 3011 Noble Hawk Drive, Kendallville, IN 46755. He, in turn, will send you an ISSA membership card.

Our banquet, which includes a buffet meal with four entrees, has attracted more than 100 attendees in recent years, is a great place to renew friendships with members of the state’s sports journalists as well as honor those deemed to be among our best.

The specific date for the 25th annual banquet, which is traditionally held in April, will be made official at our Board of Directors’ July meeting.

If you know of a working sports journalist (working or retired) whom you believe should be considered for the ISSA’s Hall of Fame, please go to the bottom of this home page and nominate that person.

The ISSA board of directors will be meeting in early July to vote on next year’s Hall of Fame honorees.
